I am saddened to inform you of the passing of a giant in the Toronto Orthopaedic Community, Dr. Ian Harrington. Dr. Harrington spent his entire career at Michael Garron Hospital (Formerly Toronto East General) and served as Division Head of Orthopaedics and Surgeon-in-Chief for many years. He was a true gentleman, a talented surgeon, a respected teacher and mentor, and one of the kindest individuals that you would ever meet. He was a deserving inductee to the Toronto Orthopaedic Hall of Fame in 2019.

Ian was a very special man, and one to whom I owe a great deal.
Lucia and I offer our heartfelt condolences to the Harrington family on the loss of someone who meant so much to us and to so many others.

I first met Ian in the Fracture Clinic at TEGH on July 1, 1991—my first day as a senior resident, following a demanding six months on the Orthopaedic Service at Sunnybrook. From that very first day, Ian was kind, generous with his time, and genuinely welcoming. That kindness never wavered throughout my six-month rotation. I enjoyed my time at TEGH so much that I returned the following year as a Fellow, largely because of the environment Ian helped create.

Ian, along with Dr. Barrington, played a pivotal role in hiring me as a Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon in July 1992. Nearly 34 years later, I remain deeply proud to have spent my career at what is now MGH—a path that would not have been possible without Ian’s belief in me and his steady guidance.

Ian was a patient teacher, a gifted surgeon, a dedicated researcher, a tireless administrator, a trusted mentor, and, to me, a friend.

In recognition of his remarkable contributions, Dr. Paul Wong and I nominated Ian to the University of Toronto Orthopaedic Hall of Fame. His acceptance, and the fact that he remains the only inductee from TEGH to date, is a testament to the esteem in which he was held by his peers and the lasting impact of his work.

It was truly an honour to have known Ian both professionally and personally. I will always treasure the time we spent together—whether in the operating room or in his office at Wynford Drive or during countless evening phone calls to his home early in my career when I sought his advice or in his later years when he joined me Tuesday mornings in the Fracture Clinic.

His wisdom, wit, generosity, and quiet support shaped my career and will remain with me always.

Humber River Health Orthopaedic Recruitment

Dr. Seper Ekhtiari is a fellowship-trained academic hip and knee arthroplasty surgeon. Originally born in Iran, Dr. Ekhtiari grew up in Toronto, where he completed a Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of Toronto, followed by medical school and Orthopaedic Surgery residency at McMaster University. He also completed a Master’s of Science in Health Research Methodology under the supervision of Dr. Mohit Bhandari at McMaster University. After residency, Dr. Ekhtiari completed the prestigious Hip Society M.E. Müller Fellowship at the ENDO Klinik in Hamburg, Germany and University of Cambridge in the UK. This was followed by a Complex Arthroplasty Fellowship at Mount Sinai in Toronto. Dr. Ekhtiari was practicing as a Hip and a Knee Arthroplasty Surgeon at Hamilton Health Sciences, and was appointed as an Assistant Professor at McMaster prior to joining the Sinai Arthroplasty group.

His clinical practice includes total hip and knee replacements, partial knee replacements, and robotic-assisted surgery. Dr. Ekhtiari has over 90 peer-reviewed publications to date, and has obtained over $250,000 in research grant funding for randomized clinical trials and large observational studies. His research has been published in top journals including JAMA, The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and Lancet Oncology. He is passionate about improving outcomes for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery, including in the care of patients with infected joint replacements. Outside the hospital, he and his wife Rosemary enjoy travelling, reading, cooking, spending time with their families, and staying active, including running, cycling, and playing tennis. He is cautiously optimistic that the Toronto Maple Leafs will win a Stanley Cup in his lifetime, and is excited to be returning to Toronto to help cheer them on.

Seper joins the busy arthroplasty group at Mount Sinai and his practice will focus on primary and revision hip and knee replacements.

Marvin Tile was born in Toronto where he attended Harbord Collegiate and the University of Toronto, graduating with B.Sc. (Medicine) and M.D. degrees in 1957. In 1963, he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada.  In 1965, as a Detweiler Traveling Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, he visited major orthopaedic centres in England and Europe. Returning to Canada, he joined the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital, working with his mentor Dr. George Pennal.  He was appointed to staff at Sunnybrook Hospital in 1966, became Head of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1971, and from 1985 to 1996 he served as Surgeon-in-Chief.

Dr. Tile was named a member of the Order of Canada in 2009 for his contributions as a surgeon, educator and innovator.  He received numerous prestigious awards including the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal.  His skill and care touched many lives which led to his philanthropic involvement to further academic surgery through AO and the establishment of the Endowed Marvin Tile Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery at Sunnybrook.  His numerous professional leadership roles have included:

• Chair, Examining Board in Orthopaedic Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of Canada
• Founding President, Ontario Orthopaedic Association
• President, Canadian Orthopaedic Association

• President, International Society for Surgery of the Lumbar Spine
• President, AO/ASIF Foundation, an international foundation dedicated to research and education in trauma and fractures, with headquarters in Switzerland

Dr. Tile was also deeply committed to his family and passionate in his reflections about the cultural past and present.  He shared his lived experiences publishing his autobiography ‘Severed Roots’ in 2010, which he wrote with contributions by his lifelong partner Esther following a powerful introspection into his ancestral homeland while traveling to Poland in 2006.  He promoted diversity and inclusion, combated antisemitism, racism, and violence. He broadly shared experiences at lecture discussions held by the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine and related topics were featured by Visiting Professors in their lectures delivered as part of our university’s Department of Surgery annual Tile Lecture in Trauma.

In recent years, Dr. Tile continued to mentor clinicians, scientists, and trainees through a Wyss Medical Foundation supported project focusing on enhancing surgical team performance in fracture care.  He continued to contribute towards continuing medical education writing also several discussion papers to support Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.  He was an inaugural inductee into the Toronto Orthopaedic Hall of Fame in 2017. He was intensely committed to the University Division, and even during the last year was a regular attendee via zoom at University Wide Orthopaedic Rounds. Dr. Tile’s immense influence continues to be reflected by the number of faculty within University of Toronto, across Canada, and around the world that he trained. He was a titan in the orthopaedic community, and his loss will resonate throughout our specialty.

Dr. Tile is survived by his wife, Esther, and the couple’s four children: Gary, Stephen, Andrew and Debbie, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Details of Dr. Tile’s funeral will be shared via Benjamin’s Park Memorial Chapel as they are confirmed. Tribute donations can be directed to the Dr. Marvin Tile Chair in Orthopaedic Surgery.

Earl is an orthopaedic surgeon from St. Michael’s Hospital renowned in the field of fracture prevention. He developed the Fracture Screening and Prevention Program, and his model of care has been implemented in hospitals across Canada. As the inaugural Brookfield Chair in Fracture Prevention, he has improved patient outcomes nationally and internationally through his clinical research.

This recognition is a fitting and well deserved tribute to Dr. Bogoch’s long and storied career at University of Toronto.

Our program is currently undergoing significant and exciting change and growth. Dr. Dvorak is unlikely to return to clinical practice and Dr. Fisher is transitioning to retirement over the coming year. Giant shoes to fill for both of them. We have hired one surgeon already with three additional surgeons joining the group over the coming year.

Dr. Charlotte Dandurand is a UBC neurosurgery residency and VGH Spine fellowship graduate. Dr. Dvorak has mentored her in the AO Knowledge Forum Trauma while she is focusing her clinical practice on minimally invasive surgery, endoscopy, and robotics.

Later this year we will welcome Dr. Brad Jacobs, a mid-career deformity surgeon from Calgary and a leading AO Educator.

We have also hired two new graduates: Dr. William Chu Kwan (a Toronto Ortho graduate and prior fellow of ours who will also complete an MIS / endoscopy fellowship with Dr. Mike Wang in Miami) and Dr. Newton Cho (a surgeon scientist that will be joining Dr. Kwon at ICORD). We now have dedicated deformity, oncology, MIS and neurosurgical / intradural teams, as well as two different navigation systems, use three different instrument vendors, and have just acquired the Mazor Robot and an Endoscopy suite. We believe these updates have hugely enriched what we thought was already an excellent fellowship program, and we hope this would encourage you to refer potential fellows.

Updates to the Spine Fellowship

In the past, ward and emergency department responsibilities were identified as unreasonable burdens on fellows. We have taken great steps to reduce this non-surgical workload for fellows. The ward work is now the responsibility of intensivists, physiatrists, a nurse practitioner and three associate physicians, so our fellows are now essentially free of that burden. We have also established an Advanced Practice Physiotherapy program, triaging the majority of the spine referrals to the clinic.

We are now operating in large state of the art OR suites, vastly different from those days in OR21 and OR9! The entire program has been significantly transformed – and we believe this makes for one of the best fellowships in the world.

Finally, Canada is about to approve a first-in-the-world diploma program in spine surgery through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. This will be an official diploma program that can follow either orthopedic or neurosurgical residency training. The VGH/UBC fellowship will be the first program to offer this diploma as part of our fellowship, beginning in 2026-27.

The successful candidate will have an active staff appointment with clinical activities in the Division of Orthopaedics, Department of Surgery, at Mount Sinai Hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to provide high quality of clinical care to hip and knee arthroplasty patients and participate fully in a co-operative and collegial way with other members of the Division of Orthopaedics. As part of a specialized clinical program, the successful candidate will conduct a practice of surgery with a special expertise in primary and revision hip and knee replacement, robotics, and trauma care. It is anticipated that clinical duties will involve approximately 40% of their time. During the provision of clinical responsibilities, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will be actively involved in supervising students, residents and other clinical trainees. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will be engaged in clinical work that is in direct support of University academic work. The successful candidate’s research portfolio will be expected to involve approximately 40% of their time, with 20% of their time allotted to administrative and educational activities.

The successful candidate must be a fellowship-trained knee and hip arthroplasty surgeon and must be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent, with completion of a postgraduate degree program (i.e. MSc, MPH, PhD, MBA), eligible to hold licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, and eligible for appointment in the Surgery and Oncology Program at Sinai Health and Mount Sinai Hospital. The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. The successful candidate must be comfortable managing primary and complex revision knee and hip arthroplasty cases as well as provide management of fracture and trauma patients. Prioritization will be given to those with experience and interest in robotic-assisted joint replacement, complex revision knee replacement, and contemporary approaches to hip replacement. The successful candidate will have an interest in academic practice, a vision for research that aligns with the Division’s key priorities, and be eligible for appointment as a Surgeon-Investigator or Surgeon-Scientist. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. The successful candidate should possess strong leadership skills, professionalism and an ability to work in a team.

Sinai Health System (SHS) is a University of Toronto, fully affiliated academic hospital comprised of Mount Sinai Hospital, Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, Lunenfeld-Tannenbaum Research Institute and Circle of Care, which combines acute care, complex and rehabilitative care, primary care and other community based services to create an innovative and integrated continuum of care with the goal to achieve the best outcomes and experiences and outcomes for our patients. The Branch for Global Surgical Care (BGSC) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is pleased to announce a September 2024 intake for the Master of Global Surgical Care (MGSC) and Graduate Certificate in Global Surgical Care (GCGSC) programs.

Our graduate programs are innovative, online programs focused on the global burden of unmet surgical care. Learners will build on their health-care related disciplines to gain the fundamental knowledge, critical thinking tools and practical skills needed to lead the way to improved access to care by addressing the gap that exists between surgical need and the equitable provision of safe surgical care in low resource settings.

• The Graduate Certificate in Global Surgical Care (GCGSC) is a 12-credit certificate program consisting of 4 courses designed to meet the growing need for professional development in global surgical care.
• The Master of Global Surgical Care (MGSC) is an online two-year, 30-credit specialized program consisting of 8 courses designed to prepare surgical care professionals from many disciplines to address surgical challenges and contribute to solutions in low-resource settings globally. The MGSC includes the option to complete a specialized stream in Canadian Low Resource Settings, focusing on the unique issues affecting surgical care in rural and remote low resource settings in Canada.

West Parry Sound Health Centre (WPSHC,) is seeking a full-time orthopaedic surgeon to join our perioperative team. Our orthopaedic program is extreamly well resourced with approx. 260 QBP funded total joint replacement proceedures, exceptional clinical support, state-of-the-art operating theatres and diagnostic facilities. In addition to significant operating room resources, and a turn-key, hospital-based office practice, the successful candidate will have access to our ambulatory care facilities / fracture clinic.

Successful candidates will be certified, or eligible for certification, by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and hold, or be eligible for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Dr. Matthies joins the Toronto Western Hospital Orthopaedic Division as an Assistant Professor. Prior to this, she has worked for the past 3 and a half years as a staff surgeon at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. She specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder with particular interest in patellar instability and knee ligament reconstruction, including pediatric and adolescent patients. Her research interests include surgical quality improvement & OR sustainability, qualitative research, and diversity in orthopedics.

Dr. Matthies completed her residency from the University of Toronto in 2018 and subsequently completed two subspeciality fellowships in sports medicine & arthroscopy (University of Toronto Orthopaedic Sports Medicine) and lower limb reconstruction & trauma (St. Michaels Hospital). She is the current head orthopaedic surgeon for the National Ballet of Canada.

About

The Royal Columbian Hospital is a level 1 trauma hospital and regional referral centre for over 1.6 million people in the Fraser Valley. It is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of British Columbia. The Upper Extremity Reconstruction and Trauma Fellowship will offer candidates a high volume of clinical exposure to all aspects of upper extremity surgery. A preceptor based, combined elective and trauma practice provides experience in shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand fracture care, post-traumatic reconstruction, arthroscopy and arthroplasty. Clinical expertise will be gained through patient assessment and management in both trauma clinics and elective offices.

Requirements

The fellow is expected to provide call coverage when either of the two preceptors are covering call. Academic responsibilities include participation in weekly trauma rounds, resident seminars, and teaching of both resident and undergraduate medical students. The fellow will participate in department research activities and complete one research project during the year with the expectation of publication and presentation.

• Clinical exposure to both traumatic and degenerative conditions of the upper extremity from shoulder to hand
• Surgical experience in the management of traumatic injuries of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand

Amit was appointed to our faculty at St. Michael’s Hospital in 2017 and has been incredibly productive from a clinical, teaching and research perspective, focusing his efforts on clinical outcomes in arthroplasty and tribology. His most significant contribution is OrthoCAST, an online compendium of high-quality videos covering a broad spectrum of topics within the orthopaedic curriculum. This has been called by students the “Netflix of Orthopaedics”.

I would like to share an opportunity for faculty members from our Division to urgently assist with disaster response efforts. Among the organizations on the ground is Humanity First (www.humanityfirst.ca), an entirely volunteer-based disaster response organization that is presently responding to calls from the WHO and the AFAD (Turkish National Emergency Management department) to provide emergency medical response services.

They are looking to collaborate with our Division and are seeking an orthopaedic surgeon who is willing and able to travel to Turkey in the next few days for a brief trip to provide emergency orthopaedic trauma services. As per Humanity First, emergency hospital and operating room resources will be available/assigned to surgeons who are able to come and assist in the response. Furthermore, the Turkish Embassy in Canada supporting these efforts by providing airfare/travel expenses for emergency medical personnel who can travel on an urgent basis.

Given this urgent need, if any of you are interested and able to travel to Turkey for a short trip, please let me know as soon as possible so that I may connect you with the appropriate contact persons. One response team is expected to leave today, and another will likely leave in the coming days. It is more than likely that if one of our staff surgeons is able to make the trip, a few of our trainees would be able to go along with you to assist with your efforts, along with other support personnel.

This is an opportunity to do some great humanitarian work on behalf of our Division, although I understand how incredibly difficult it is for individuals to leave on such short notice.

Our specialties include major musculoskeletal injury (a range of disorders involving muscles, bones, tendons, blood vessels, nerves and other soft tissues), total joint replacement and major biological restoration.

We lead in:

• Traumatic injury management (such as pelvic injury and spine care)
• Joint (hip, knee and shoulder) reconstruction and replacement
• Complex upper and lower limb surgery
• Sports and activity-related injury management
• Rehabilitation
• Rheumatology

Our activities reflect a strong interdisciplinary approach and focus on function and independence, patient-centered care, aging and quality outcomes.

We have an annual volume of about 5,000 elective orthopaedic surgical cases (including more than 2,200 hip and knee replacement procedures) and more than 30,000 ambulatory care visits.

Job Description

Off-hours, in-house medical coverage required for:

Duty Hours

Monday – Friday
1800 hours to 0730 hours

Saturday
0700 hours to 0700 hours Sunday

Sunday
0700 hours to 0730 hours Monday

Responsibilities

1. The In-house Physician is expected to contact the Hospital Coordinator on arrival at the Hospital to be brought up to date on any matters of concern.
2. The In-house Physician must remain on hospital premises throughout his/her shift in order to be available to respond immediately to emergency situations.
3. The In-house Physician is expected to respond to all cardiac arrest/emergency codes.
4. All routine patient care is the responsibility of the Attending Physicians and/or Clinical Fellows, and should be referred back to the Attending Physician after regular working hours. The In-house Physician is responsible for dealing with any patient management problem that is brought to his/her attention. In normal circumstances, the Attending Physician should be consulted regarding:

• • Indications/need for blood transfusion; and/or
  • Management of patients with suspected Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).

5. The In-house Physician is responsible for medical screening and/or treatment advice of patients calling the Hospital Coordinator with urgent concerns.

The event was held at the University Club and featured a combination of research paper presentations and lively debates by our graduates. ​Our Salter Visiting Professor was Dr. Laurie Hiemstra from Banff. Dr. Hiemstra was recently installed as the 77th President of the COA and the first woman to hold this important role. She is also our first female Graduation Day visiting professor.

The best research project presentation was awarded to Dr. Ahmed Cherry for his project “Trans-osseous repair of the posterior structures is superior to direct suturing in posterior approach THA: a comparative cadaveric study” and the best debate was between Dr. Jay Toor and Dr. David Burns, addressing the topic “Artificial Intelligence in Orthopaedics: Fantastic or Fantasy”. Dr. Hiemstra topped off the day with a fantastic and inspiring talk entitled “Women in Orthopaedics – The Road to a Culture of Inclusion”. 

In the evening, we held a dinner at the Arcadian Court in honour of our graduates and their partners. We also gave several of our annual awards.

• The junior resident Lawson Awards for high academic achievement on the OITE were given to Drs. Sulaiman Alrefai, Brent Bates, Johnathan Lex and Xing (Bill) Mei.
• The Dr. James Waddell Award for the most outstanding PGY-4 resident was given to Dr. Tyler Hauer.
• The Borna Meisami Award for most compassionate PGY-5 resident was awarded to Dr. Hayley Spurr.
• The Lawson Award for most outstanding graduating PGY-5 resident was given to Dr. David Burns.
• The most outstanding teacher as selected by the residents was Dr. Jesse Wolfstadt.

The goal of the fellowship is to provide post-graduate trainees the opportunity to acquire assessments skills and surgical techniques to manage every aspect of care with respect to knee joint injuries and conditions – complex trauma, primary and revision total knee replacement, partial knee replacement, osteotomy, cartilage restoration, simple through complex soft-tissue reconstruction.

The fellowship includes diagnosis, evaluation and management of degenerative, inflammatory and post-traumatic arthritis of the hip and knee; a high volume of complex primary and revision knee arthroplasty, as well as the treatment of young adult hip and knee disorders resulting in possible resurfacing, osteotomies and arthroscopy.

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and is the largest trauma centre in Canada. We have an annual volume of about 5,000 elective orthopaedic surgical cases (including more than 2,200 hip and knee replacement procedures) and more than 30,000 ambulatory care visits.

The fellowship is open to International and Canadian medical graduates and geared towards recent program graduates.

As such, our incoming fourth-year MD Program students will once again be expected to complete all their electives during the 2022-2023 academic year at the University of Toronto. Given our success over the last two years, we are confident that we will provide them with an equally fulfilling elective experience with the support of our faculty and administrators. 

The International Visiting Electives program will remain closed at least until January 2023. We hope to provide an update on the status of this program by June 2022.

While we are good at getting bones to heal with modern treatment, many of these patients still have poor outcomes often driven by muscle weakness. This RCT is international with Sunnybrook as the lead site, and includes St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto (Dr. Amir Khoshbin, site PI) and Walter Reed Hospital (Dr. Scott Tintle). Sunnybrook’s Dr. David Wasserstein (study and site PI) and Dr. Bheeshma Ravi (study Co-PI) have secured over 2 million dollars (CAN) in funding from the US Department of Defense. This study is a truly collaborative Sunnybrook effort with co-investigators from Burn Surgery, PM&R, MSK Radiology, Internal Medicine and Neurology.

Recruitment is expected to begin in Spring 2022.

Dr. Chan specializes in the management of the full spectrum of upper extremity disorders in children and adolescents. She will expand the existing collaborations between Orthopaedics and Plastics in further developing our upper extremity service.

Dr. Chan’s research interests include Quality Improvement projects across surgery, as well as clinical innovation and outcomes in upper extremity reconstruction.

Her clinical training includes an orthopaedic residency at University of Toronto, and upper extremity fellowships in London, Ontario and Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her MD at University of Toronto, and holds BSc and MA degrees in Forensic Science and Anthropology. She has published a history of pandemic influenza in Canada among numerous scholarly and clinical works. She is appointed as Assistant Professor at University of Toronto. Most recently she has practiced with the upper extremity group at Toronto Western Hospital, where she will continue to work part time.

The day started off with emotional tributes from Simon Kelley and Bill Kraemer in memory of Lucas Murnaghan and Dan Stojimirovic respectively. The losses of these two valued members of our division leave enormous holes in all of our lives. Their memories will live on in our Division.

We recognized our 2021 graduates Aouod Agenor, Amit Anand, Amy Behman, Hasaan Chaudhry, Jonathan Doyon, Matt Florczynski, Scott Kim, Jason Lam, Jhase Sniderman, and James Wu. In the face of a challenging environment including COVID, these talented young surgeons persevered and successfully passed their Royal College Exams. We are incredibly proud of your accomplishments and welcome you to our esteemed alumni.

Our 2020 Graduation Day was cancelled due to COVID, and so we also took the opportunity to honour our graduates from last year, Tara Baxter, Hilary Felice, Zachary Lim, Jennah Mann, Ryan Perlus and Ian Whatley. These individuals are all completing fellowships currently across North America and will be soon joining faculties across the country.

We introduced faculty members who have joined us in the past 2 years – Andrea Chan, Justues Chang, Harman Chaudhry, Mansur Halai, Stan Hamstra, Jeremie Larouche, Raman Mundi, Sam Park, Ryan Paul, Daniel Pincus, Ujash Sheth and Kim Tsoi. Finally, we inducted Drs. Gordon Hunter, Bob Jackson and Dan Stojimirovic into the Toronto Orthopaedic Hall of Fame. We heard tributes to these individuals and we’re so happy that their families were able to join us in the celebration.

This brings to a conclusion an amazing year for our Division. Congratulations to all the graduates and award winners. We’re looking forward to a successful 2021-2022 academic year!

The successful project was led by Sarah Ward and is entitled “Improving post-pandemic resident education and patient care through the implementation of standardized adverse events Data Capture and Quality Rounds throughout the division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Toronto”. Sarah’s co-investigators include Jesse Wolfstadt, Raj Rampersaud, Christian Veillette, Justues Chang, Jeremie Larouche, Maryse Bouchard and Scott Kim. We look forward to bringing this important project to fruition in order to improve trainee education and patient outcomes.

The runner up group was co-led by Jesse Wolfstadt and Bheeshma Ravi, entitled “Preventable ED visits following orthopaedic procedures: a plan for action!” Other co-investigators include Daniel Pincus, Tim Leroux, Michael Zywiel, Sarah Ward and James Higgins.

The Orthopaedic Council will be meeting shortly to plan to administer funding for the successful project(s). Congratulations to everyone on their efforts to promote cross-institutional collaborative research in our Division.
