He then returned to Toronto for fellowship training in orthopaedic oncology at Mount Sinai Hospital and the University of Toronto.

Dr. Gazendam’s clinical practice is dedicated to the surgical management of bone and soft-tissue sarcomas and metastatic bone disease. He has expertise in complex limb-salvage surgery, endoprosthetic reconstruction, and minimally invasive fixation techniques. His academic interests center on advancing the care of oncology patients by leading large, multicenter clinical trials designed to rigorously evaluate surgical and medical interventions. A key focus of his work is the validation and implementation of patient-reported outcome measures, ensuring that treatment effectiveness is assessed not only through clinical endpoints but also through the lived experiences of patients. In addition, he is dedicated to integrating digital health technologies into cancer care, using platforms such as mobile applications and wearable devices to enhance patient monitoring, facilitate real-time data collection, and promote personalized, patient-centered care. Collectively, these efforts aim to improve clinical outcomes, optimize quality of life, and inform evidence-based practices in musculoskeletal oncology.
