Message from Program Director

Dr. Jeremy Hall
Our residency training program is known around the world as being the first successfully implemented competency-based training program. Since 2009, our Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) has led the way in postgraduate medical education in the design, implementation, assessment and feedback techniques to determine competence in all the skills and knowledge resident trainees need to acquire and master prior to graduating from residency. Due to the success of our program, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada has now mandated that all residency training programs in Canada become competency-based, as per its “Competence By Design” plan.

A key component of the CBC is the Orthopaedic Boot Camp, which has won international awards for its novel approach to teaching technical skills in the first month of training. This model of intense training has proven so successful that it has been adopted nationally and internationally.

Our program benefits from a world class faculty who are dedicated to resident education. Each resident’s education is tailored to fit their career goals and academic/research interests. The program is continually updated to incorporate resident input, technological advances, and to maintain an optimal service-to-education balance. Residents are supported and encouraged to participate actively in all Divisional educational activities. Our residents universally feel that the program puts their educational interests first and foremost and allows them to successfully aspire to their career goals, whether they are academic or community-based.
