Electives in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery

Electives are an integral part of the career decision process for medical students, offering an opportunity to gain an appreciation for Orthopaedic surgery, as well as serving as an introduction to surgical staff. Electives give the student an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and talents with an aim toward reference letters for the CaRMS process.
Elective Training for UofT Medical Students

University of Toronto students looking to participate in an elective at a University of Toronto affiliated hospital are encouraged to approach the Orthopaedic surgeon directly using the UofT catalogue.

Elective Training for Visiting Students – International

All other students (and UofT students seeking electives in other cities) need to apply using the AFMC portal. It is a lottery system. Requests are routed to the appropriate coordinator and then to the program coordinator. If indicated, the request may go directly to the surgeon.
