Maryse is an internationally recognized paediatric orthopaedic surgeon, clinician-scientist, and educator whose work exemplifies excellence in clinical care, innovation, and academic leadership. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Toronto and has served as a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon at SickKids since 2019 after starting her career at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
Maryse has built an outstanding academic portfolio, with research focusing on advancing paediatric foot and ankle care through innovative approaches including 3D surgical planning, medical device development, and digital health solutions.
A highly accomplished educator and mentor, Maryse currently serves as Fellowship Program Director for Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at SickKids and Director of the Orthopaedic Resident Leadership Program at the University of Toronto. She has previously held key roles as Associate Program Director for Orthopaedic Residency, with a focus on equity, diversity, inclusion, and wellness.
Maryse is also a leader on the global stage. She serves as Education Council Chair for the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) and has held numerous leadership roles within national and international organizations. She is equally committed to global surgery, with work in resource-limited settings, including surgical missions, telementoring initiatives, and capacity-building programs across multiple countries.
As Division Head, Dr. Bouchard will bring a strong commitment to advancing clinical excellence, fostering innovation, strengthening education and mentorship programs, and promoting a culture of inclusivity and collaboration across the Division and Hospital, specifically uniting allied health practitioners and other medical specialists who care for orthopaedic patients to deliver the optimal care to these families.
Please join me in congratulating Maryse on this well-deserved appointment.
At this time, I also want to acknowledge and deeply thank Dr. Andrew Howard, who has served as Division Head from 2012 to 2014, and from 2018 until now. Andrew saw the Division through a period of significant change and turnover of faculty, as well as guiding the Division through the pandemic. He brought to his leadership role a wealth of institutional experience, wise judgement, strong advocacy, and deep compassion for the orthopaedic patients and his team. During his tenure, he successfully recruited five brilliant new faculty members, leaving the Division in very strong shape and with a tremendously bright future. Thank you so much, Andrew.
