October 30th University Rounds – Drs. MacDonald and Litchfield

Dear Colleagues,
Please plan to join University Wide Orthopaedic Rounds on Friday, October 30th 7:30 to 8:30am, to hear our guest speakers, Drs. MacDonald and Litchfield virtually via Zoom (login information will be emailed separately and posted in the Divisional Calendar).

Drs. MacDonald and Litchfield are both world renowned surgeons specializing in upper extremity, knee, and sports-related conditions. We’re including their short biographies below. Talks are entitled as follows:

 

Dr. Macdonald, “Decision making in Anterior Shoulder Instability”.

Dr. Litchfield, “Expanding the indications for osteotomy about the knee”.

 

Our Sports Group nominated Peter and Bob for this as they will be conducting the External Review of the University of Toronto Sports Medicine Program and the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at Women’s College Hospital on October 29th and 30th. This promises to be a great session with two distinguished speakers.

 

Dr. Peter MacDonald

Dr. MacDonald is a Professor and the Section Head of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Manitoba and Regional Orthopaedic Leader for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. He is also Medical Director for the Department of Surgery and Chief Research and Innovation Officer of the Pan Am Clinic in Winnipeg. Dr. MacDonald was a North American Travelling Fellow in 1992 and has been a member and on the board of various Orthopaedic Associations. In 2020, he was appointed Vice President of the American Shoulder & Elbow Surgeons. He also served as President of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association from June 2017 to June 2018.

Dr. MacDonald’s clinical practice and research focuses on upper extremity, knee, sports injuries and arthroscopy. He has authored or co-authored 154 peer-reviewed journal articles and has given 487 major presentations at national and international meetings. He serves on many editorial boards and was Associate Editor for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. He is also Team Physician for both the Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League.

 

Dr. Bob Litchfield

Dr. Robert (Bob) Litchfield is Medical Director of the Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic and Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at The University of Western Ontario since 2002. His primary area of clinical interest is the management of activity related injuries and conditions of the shoulder and knee. He is active in several professional societies including the American Shoulder and Elbow Society, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Herodicus Society, the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine. As well, he is a member of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team Physician Group.

Bob received his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario where he completed his orthopaedic residency. Following fellowships in pediatric orthopaedics at Auckland Children’s Hospital in New Zealand and at Adelaide Children’s Hospital in South Australia, he completed an orthopaedic sport medicine fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado. He returned to the University of Western Ontario and London Health Sciences Centre, University Hospital in 1994.
