Applications are invited for a position in the Division of Orthopaedics at Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital, a fully affiliated hospital with the University of Toronto. The effective date of this appointment is July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.

The successful candidate will be an orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty training in Trauma and Foot & Ankle care. The candidate will advance the academic mission of the Hospital and of the University through local, national and international innovations and scholarship in any of the following areas: clinical epidemiology, health services research, basic research, surgical education, surgical ethics, global health and the health of disadvantaged populations, quality improvement, patient safety or health policy. A Master’s in the relevant area of study is an asset. The candidate is expected to possess exemplary clinical skills and a demonstrated commitment to life-long learning, and to demonstrate exceptional professionalism, interpersonal and collaboration skills. The candidate will be required to support the academic mission of Unity Health Toronto – St. Michael’s Hospital through a commitment to the training of medical student, residents and fellows within the Department of Surgery.

The successful candidate must hold a Fellowship in Orthopaedics from the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (or its equivalent) as well as hold, or be eligible for an independent practice license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The candidate will have, or is working towards a Master’s, or PhD in a relevant field and will be eligible for an appointment in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, commensurate with their qualifications and academic achievements.

St. Michael’s Hospital is a teaching and research-intensive Level 1 Trauma Centre located in downtown Toronto providing primary, secondary, and tertiary care across the GTA and province. The Department of Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital enjoys a proven track record in tertiary care with strengths in each of the surgical divisions. The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital/University of Toronto is a large academic orthopaedic unit, with full clinical facilities, a large orthopaedic floor, and new experimental and clinical research facilities. Its focus is on basic science as well as clinical-and trauma-related research. Its research profile is well established and world-renown, further strengthened by a state-of-the art research centre called the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute.

The annual salary is estimated to be in the range of $200K to $400K, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The estimate is based solely on fee-for-service billings.
