Dr. Rangel’s academic interest centers on defining the challenges facing surgeons starting a family, demonstrating how these impact burnout and career dissatisfaction, and using evidence to inform policy change to better support alignment of personal and professional priorities. Her work and advocacy on parental leave, organizational culture surrounding parenthood, and maternal-fetal health risks related to professional duties have been featured in the JAMA Network and Annals of Surgery as well as in the laypress in New York Times, USA Today, and the Behind the Knife podcast.
