Dr. Mitchell Bernstein

Talk Title:

"Torsional Osteotomies for Patellofemoral Dysfunction"
Dr. Bernstein is the Program Director of the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program at McGill University and Assistant Professor in the Departments of  Surgery and Pediatric Surgery, McGill University

His primary research focus is in the area of pediatric and adult orthopaedic trauma, including limb lengthening and complex extremity reconstruction. A secondary focus is in value-based health care delivery and outcomes research.

He is Co-Director of the Limb Deformity Unit at the Shriners Hospital for Children, where he established collaboration with Louis-Nicolas Veilleux PhD (Principal Investigator and Department Head of the Motion Analysis Centre) and Thierry Pauyo MD (orthopaedic sports medicine colleague) at Shriners Hospital for Children – Canada to develop and promote a research project that explores the functional impact of patients with torsional deformities of the lower-extremities and assesses surgical outcomes.

His research endeavors include:

Instability Research Program
The introduction, implementation and development of a Knee Instability Research Program, Gait Lab at the Shriners Hospital for Children – Canada in December 2017. This is a research grant with Marianne Gagnon, PhD Student in Experimental Surgery with the collaboration with Dr. Thierry Pauyo, Orthopaedic Surgery – Sports Medicine.

Value-based health care outcomes research
Experience with the analysis of large patient databases as it relates to episode of care costing, cancellation rates, time to surgery, and patient-satisfaction surveys.
