MD Program Visiting Electives Cancellation

On behalf of Dr. Marcus Law, Associate Dean, and Dr. Seetha Radhakrishnan, Director Electives and Co-Director Transition to Residency (Selectives); MD Program, Temerty Faculty of Medicine

Dear colleagues,
Due to ongoing concerns with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Undergraduate Medical Education Deans across Canada have decided to cancel all visiting electives across Canada for the class of 2023.

As such, our incoming fourth-year MD Program students will once again be expected to complete all their electives during the 2022-2023 academic year at the University of Toronto. Given our success over the last two years, we are confident that we will provide them with an equally fulfilling elective experience with the support of our faculty and administrators.

The International Visiting Electives program will remain closed at least until January 2023. We hope to provide an update on the status of this program by June 2022.

We regret the disappointment this will cause but have made this decision in the interest of public and patient safety as well as the pressures on our system and sites. We will continue to monitor the situation and will keep you informed of any changes to the program as they arise. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office.

Sincerely,

Marcus Law MD MBA MEd CCFP FCFP
