Supervisors

This Clinical Fellowship focuses on Orthopaedic Oncology and is under the direct supervision of Drs. Peter Ferguson, Kim Tsoi, and Jay S. Wunder of the University Musculoskeletal Oncology Unit at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The specific objectives of this Fellowship include:

  • recognition of the natural history of musculoskeletal tumours;
  • diagnostic work-up and staging of bone and soft tissue tumours;
  • principles of limb salvage surgery and adjuvant treatment (chemotherapy and radiation therapy)
  • appropriate intervention for metastatic disease of the extremity and pelvis.

Approximately 2 days per week will be spent in the Operating Room. One and a half days will be spent in the Oncology Clinic at Mount Sinai Hospital and one half day will be spent in the Sarcoma Clinic at Princess Margaret Hospital. One day will be spent doing clinical research.

This Fellowship focuses on tertiary care with an emphasis on the diagnosis and management of orthopaedic tumours. For this reason, this Fellowship is more appropriate for those individuals who are seeking an academic career. This Clinical Fellowship is for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 2 years. Opportunities for participation in a formal research program are also available.
